Disc Front & Drum Rear: Manual Brakes with Brake Drag

Brake drag with manual disc brakes front and drums rear could be caused by one or more of the following conditions:

Frozen parking brake cable
Often overlooked, but a parking brake cable that's frozen in the applied position will cause brake drag.

A frozen wheel cylinder or disc piston
If a wheel cylinder or caliper piston freezes it could cause the shoes to drag on the drum.

A pre-load pressure on the master
If your pedal linkage binds it may retain a pre load pressure on the master which causes drag. When the master cylinder is not allowed to return to the correct rest position a residual pressure will be maintained in the system.

Incorrectly adjusted drums
Having the drums too tight will cause drag. Check the drum adjustment.

Wrong master cylinder
If you use a drum master for disc brakes it will cause the front calipers to drag. A drum master has a 10 lb residual pressure valve in it that holds pressure on the calipers.
