With Master Power's rear drum upgrade kits, you can get the performance of rear disc brakes at a fraction of the cost. Most drum brake kits come with 11" finned cast iron drums and ceramic brake shoes to give you a huge improvement in braking performance over your original drums. The extra friction surface area will directly result in shorter stopping distance and less brake fade. Kits for Ford applications are designed for small or large bearing rears with 3-3/8” x 2” flange bolt patterns, although they can be modified easily to fit 1/2” bolts. Finned cast iron drum kits are available for Chevrolet applications as well. For specific Chevrolet applications we offer finned drum kits and the option of a composite drum (for 1955 - 1964 full size cars) that is cryogenically treated. These kits also come with ceramic brake shoes.
Customers generally ask:
1. What is the benefit of ceramic brake shoes?
2. What does cryogenically treated mean and what is its benefit?
3. What makes and models do you have drum brake upgrade kits for?
1. What is the benefit of ceramic brake shoes?
Ceramic brake shoes have a friction co-efficient of .42 compared to generic brake shoes which only score .25. This increased friction co-efficient equates to less pedal effort. It also means low noise, low dust, longer shoe life and safe stopping.
2. What does cryogenically treated mean and what is its benefit?
Cryogenically treating a drum is a process that gradually lowers it to -310 degrees Fahrenheit under pressure, holds it at that temperature for 60 hours, and then gradually raises it back to room temperature. The reason for this additional tempering process is that it compresses the drum's molecules, squeezing out air gaps in the metal. The drum's structure is strengthened which means increased wear resistance and durability. It also allows the brake system to run up to 50% cooler.
